Description

Sanderson is looking for a Workshop Technician for a cutting edge company that develops proprietary, advanced offshore and onshore transmission cable systems and technologies based on superconductivity. As a member of a diverse and talented technical team you will be required to work on multi-disciplinary projects and engage with specialized subcontractors, suppliers, and other members of the technical team. Key responsibilities. Maintain laboratory site and experimental facilities e.g. orderliness, cleanliness, coordination of craft work, site preparation, site clean-up and waste management; Construct and operate experimental rigs & jigs; build and assemble mechanical and electrical laboratory equipment; prepare and assemble test samples; set-up various types of sensing and recording equipment including data acquisition, temperature sensors, pressure sensors, flow meters, temperature control circuits, etc; Work with liquid nitrogen flows, pressurized systems, energized electrical equipment, hand-operated power tools, and basic machine shop equipment; Liaise with test engineers to perform testing activities and experiments; aid in test planning and preparation; Assist in engagements with external suppliers during the sourcing and development of facility equipment; Prepare and package components and equipment for transportation or shipment to other locations; Work with other personnel as appropriate for the conduct of the technical work. Essential: Certification or Qualification in Engineering, Fabrication, or equivalent, in a relevant field plus at least 3 years of related professional experience (preferably in a product development or testing environment), or an equivalent combination of education and experience; Experience with the mechanical and electrical construction, operation, and troubleshooting of engineering test rigs and laboratory equipment; Thorough understanding of and demonstrated experience adhering to environment, safety, and health policies and procedures; Sound knowledge and understanding of work hazards, safety practices and resolution of related issues; Competency in technical skills such as fabrication, carpentry, soldering, basic machining, and use of hand and power tools; Ability to interpret engineering drawings and analytical procedures and methodologies in order to complete both component manufacture and system assembly; Exceptional internal customer service, organizational, and communication skills, and ability to interact with all levels of staff, management, service providers, and external partners. Desirable: Experience working with and handling cryogenic fluids/systems and/or other hazardous fluids; Experience working with vacuum systems; Past history working on projects in offshore renewables or heavy industry products would be looked upon favourably; Experience with CNC machines, 3D printers, and rapid prototyping machines; Ability to use research data acquisition systems (such as NI Max, LABView) and instruments (such as oscilloscopes/digitizers, temperature sensors, pressure sensors, accelerometers, strain gauges); Proven experience of operating a crane, forklift, and other warehouse lifting/moving equipment and machinery.
