Assay Master  Established by Royal Charter in 1637, and governed by The Company of Goldsmiths of Dublin, the Assay Office, assays and hallmarks (i.e., tests, certifies and marks) all items of gold, silver, platinum and palladium jewellery and/or plate manufactured in Ireland or imported into Ireland. Underpinned by Irish and EU legislation and analytical standards, all items of gold, silver, platinum and palladium are subject to compulsory assay and marking in Ireland. The Assay Office protects standards through services to craftspeople, manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers and consumers. It combines scientific testing in its laboratory with the skill of the “Markers” in its Marking Room and the essential support of the administration team to ensure a high level of consumer protection in a fair-trading environment.  The Assay Office now wishes to appoint an Assay Master to lead the team in the execution of this unique and important national function. The Assay Master is the Accounting Officer and General Manager of the Assay Office and leads the team in the provision of a range of services that is both unique and essential for the jewellery industry and consumers.  The key functions of the role are to:  · enable a positive working environment;  · plan for the future development of the Assay Office and the team;  · implement environmental and health and safety standards;  · keep up-to-date with developments relating to the analytical laboratory and marking technologies;  · maintain its high standards of customer service;  · represent the Assay Office with a range of stakeholders in Ireland and abroad.  Reporting to the Wardens of the company, the ideal candidate will demonstrate strengths in governance and financial stewardship, will have a financial, production or scientific background, team leadership experience in a customer centric environment and the ability to represent the Assay Office in various national, international, governmental and trade fora to ensure the fundamental integrity of the Assay Office.  This is truly a unique opportunity to lead the team in this venerable organisation ensuring its continued success in upholding trusted standards for the industry, thereby ensuring high levels of quality and consumer protection.  For a confidential discussion about the role, please contact Ellen Roche, Executive Search, PwC, One Spencer Dock, North Wall Quay, Dublin 1 at 087 6370812.
