Description

Application details/procedure: The Teaching Council is the professional standards body for teaching in Ireland. Its core aim is to promote and regulate the profession of teaching in Ireland. Currently, there are over 109,000 primary, post-primary and further education teachers registered with the Teaching Council. The Council seeks applications from registered teachers who are suitably experienced and qualified and would be interested in being seconded to the Teaching Council to support the Council in a range of areas, on a full-time secondment basis. The Council’s work is supported by its executive staff, including permanent and seconded staff. Associates may be assigned to work in any section of the Council, although they are likely to have a particular focus on Initial Teacher Education and Induction (ITEI), Teacher’s Learning and Research (TLR) and Communications work. They support the permanent staff of the Council, and typically carry out a range of tasks, including in the following areas: • Consultation processes with teachers and other stakeholders on policy areas such as initial teacher education and teachers’ ongoing learning. This will include, inter alia: o Designing and facilitating workshops, including developing relevant resources and supporting materials. o Administering online surveys, collating feedback and drafting reports based on same. • Initial teacher education, Droichead, Cosán, research, etc. • Communications activities including articles / ezines, videos on Council work for publication / dissemination; liaising with external service providers; • Providing support to Cosán facilitators. • Attending external events on behalf of Council, and sharing learning with colleagues. • Support expert panels and working groups appointed by Council in a number of areas, including. o Review of programmes of initial teacher education. o Droichead – The newly qualified teacher induction programme. o Cosán - the national framework for teachers’ learning. o The John Coolahan Research Support Framework. o FÉILTE– the Council’s annual event celebrating teaching and teaching innovation. • Make presentations about the work of the Council to external groups. • Review relevant research and policy literature and prepare summaries of same to support line managers in the development of policy advice for Council. https://www.teachingcouncil.ie/website/en/about-us1/vacancies-/teaching-council-vacancies.html. teaching-council_teacher-associate_job_description_2021.pdf (teachingcouncil.ie.
