Description

The Irish Prison Service (IPS) is responsible for the provision of safe and secure custody, dignity of care and rehabilitation to people in custody for safer communities. The IPS operates as an Executive Office within the Department of Justice and Equality and is a key component in our country’s Criminal Justice System. It employs some 3,200 uniformed and civilian staff. Currently, the nationwide estate is made up of 12 prisons and a number of other ancillary offices and facilities. Typically, the IPS manages approximately 4,000 people in custody at any one time, both male and female, aged 18 and over. The IPS Psychology Service is a national, public psychological service.  The Service is made up of a Head of Psychological Services, supported by a Principal Psychologist, Senior Psychologists, Staff Grade Psychologists and Assistant Psychologists.  Psychologists work as part of broad multi-disciplinary teams within all prisons across the country.  The Service holds the principle of equivalence of care as its foundation.  Its integrated model of care is bio-psycho-social, strengths-based and recovery focused and balances this with the principles of Risk, Need and Responsivity.  Interventions are organised within a layered care model.  The role of an Assistant Psychologist in the IPS is: • To support local and national IPS Psychological Services and enhance the contribution of qualified Psychologists. • To support the primary care mental health needs of those in custody.  • To provide an enhanced level of support to young people in custody. • To support service-related initiatives. Assistant Psychologists are clinically supervised by a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist (assigned by the local Senior Psychologist).  Supervision is strictly in line with Psychological Society of Ireland Guidelines.   Application details/procedure: https://www.irishprisons.ie/information-centre/recruitment/   Closing Date: 18/03/2021.   Please note that this advertisement is being hosted by the Public Appointments Service on publicjobs.ie.
