The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine is responsible for ensuring the development of forestry within Ireland in a sustainable manner and to a scale that maximises its contribution to national socio-economic well-being and that is compatible with the protection of the environment. The Department is responsible for: •Licensing, afforestation and forest roads; •Administering a range of forestry grant schemes; •Control of felling; •Collecting and disseminating statistics about Irelands forest estate; •Implementation of the forestry aspects of the EC Plant Health Directive on the marketing of Forest Reproductive Material and Forest Protection; •Regulation of wood packaging material in international trade (ISPM 15); and. •Compliance with relevant EU and national legislation. The Department seeks to employ 6 Temporary Forestry Inspectors Grade III in order to undertake fieldwork for the fourth National Forest Inventory. Temporary Forestry Inspector Grade lll. Principal duties will be focused on National Forest Inventory field data collection, specifically: •Locate and travel to NFI plots using digital maps and GPS co-ordinates; •Measure and record silvicultural, forest health and biodiversity data using specialised field equipment; •Return data collected to the Project Co-ordinator; •Any other duties appropriate to the grade as the Minister may decide. Location: The positions will be located in various locations throughout the country.
