Geographic Information System Technician (Grade I.   The Department of Culture, Heritage, and the Gaeltacht has a diverse business agenda. Its broad mandate is to promote and protect Ireland’s culture and heritage; to advance the use of the Irish language; and to facilitate the sustainable development of the islands. The GIS Unit of the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht is responsible for Geographical Information Systems and information management projects within the Department.   Assisting the GIS Manager in delivering GIS support service, the GIS Technician (Grade 1) will assist in the creation and management of GIS spatial data products and applications. They will be part of a team and will work closely with business units of the Department, such as the. National Parks and Wildlife Service, the National Monuments Service and Built Heritage and Architectural Policy. The successful candidate will have experience of manipulating digital mapping data and metadata authoring as well as strong database skills.
