The Department of Education and Skills plays a key role in Ireland’s long term economic, cultural and social development through the formulation and implementation of Government priorities in the area of education and training. As a member of the Management Board, the Head of Education Sector Employment, School Transport and Redress will have responsibility for employment policy in respect of externally employed staff across the education and training sector. S/he will also have responsibility for ensuring a stable industrial relations climate and managing the State’s response to historical issues of residential institution and day school child abuse litigation. The ideal candidate will: • Have a proven track record as a leader and senior manager in a large and complex organisation in either the public or private sector; • Demonstrate strategic leadership and strong governance skills; and have significant experience of negotiating and delivering change through working with partner agencies or bodies; • Have significant experience of policy development and implementation in a complex and challenging operating environment; • Have, or can quickly acquire, an understanding of the education and training sector, its role in the wider economic and social context and the industrial relations context specifically. This is a Top Level Appointments Committee (TLAC) position.
