Unijobs is currently seeking applications for inclusion on a panel of part-time School Placement Tutors, on behalf of the School of Education, University of Limerick. Applications are welcome from experienced education professionals to effectively tutor students on a suite of expanding initial teacher education programmes. The role of the School Placement tutor is to provide both guidance and mentoring, to evaluate the work of the student teacher while on placement and to collaborate with other tutors to grade students' performance for School Placement. Applications are welcome from: Teachers recently retired, job sharing and/or teachers on part-time hours. The role is not suitable for those who are already working full time. A range of relevant subject areas including: Business, Languages, Mathematics, Music, Physical Education, Science and Technology (Materials and Architectural Technology/Materials and Engineering Technology. All geographical regions. Teachers with the capacity to conduct their work through the medium of the Irish language are particularly welcomed. Essential Criteria: Teaching and/or leadership experience in post-primary schools and a proven track record in relation to his/her subject area(s. Experience and skills linked to supporting, mentoring and evaluating teachers' professional practice. An understanding of current policy and curriculum changes and their impact on teaching and learning. An awareness of assessment. The willingness to work in a blended manner to incorporate both face-to-face and online engagement with the School of Education and student teachers. The digital competency to engage in the School Placement via Virtual Learning Environments (Sulis/TUS etc.). A high level of interpersonal and communication skills and effective organisational skills. A Masters level qualification is desirable but not essential. Role Description: Agreement to supervise a minimum of 6 students each semester. Engagement with all school placement stakeholders (schools teachers and principals, student teachers and school of education faculty and staff. Engagement with online components of School Placement. Pre-placement meeting with students. Visiting student teachers in their placement schools (observation of the student teachers practice, assess his/her practice for grading purposes and engage him/her in reflective dialogue when giving constructive feedback. Engagement with end of week, mid-term and final reflections. Post placement meeting with student teacher. Final Tutor Assessment agreement. **Successful applicants will be required to undergo induction facilitated by the School of Education. They will be recruited to a panel from which they may be drawn on a part-time basis for a period of up to five years. School Placement tutors are remunerated using the University of Limerick occasional rates of pay for tutorial work. In addition, travel and subsistence allowances will be paid in line with public service rates. Garda vetting may be required for this position** Rate of Pay: €170 - €230 per student plus travel and subsistence allowances at public service rates. Closing date for applications: 18th July 2019.
