The National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin is Ireland’s leading botanical and horticultural institution, which cultivates a comprehensive collection of plants for scientific research, conservation, education and display.   The National Botanic Gardens within The Office of Public Works (OPW) manages Kilmacurragh Arboretum in Co. Wicklow and the John F. Kennedy Arboretum in Co. Wexford as an integral part of the National Botanic Gardens. The OPW is now recruiting for the following key position to join our successful team. Botanist Grade III. Reporting to the Taxonomist, the successful candidate will undertake a broad range of duties as part of the scientific programmes of the National Botanic Gardens. As a key member of the team you will assist in curating the Herbarium collection and participate in the taxonomic, conservation and other scientific programmes of the National Botanic Gardens and provide scientific information and data for government and the public. The ideal candidate will hold a qualification at Level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) in which Botany/Plant science was taken as a major subject in their final degree or an equivalent qualification. S/he will also have experience of systematic botany, conservation biology or ecology as well as experience of plant taxonomy and of the preparation, care and use of herbarium specimens. In addition, s/he will have a high level of computer literacy along with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
