The Department of Justice and Equality has overall responsibility for public policy and administration in respect of justice, public safety, national security, immigration and equality issues. Its vision, as set out in the Strategy Statement 2016-2019, is for a safe, fair, inclusive Ireland achieved through working together in accordance with the Department’s values. The Head of Civil Law Reform and Courts Policy is a top tier position in the leadership team in the Department of Justice and Equality. The successful candidate will in the first instance lead the Civil Law Reform and Courts Policy functions in the Civil Justice and Equality Pillar of the Department. S/he will also play a central part in the Transformation Programme, currently underway, directing the mapping of existing functions to the new organisational structure, and creating new and adaptive working methods to better deliver on the Department’s key strategic goals. As a member of the Management team, s/he will also contribute to the overall corporate leadership, management and operation of the Department. The successful candidate will have: • A record of achievement in his/her career to date demonstrating excellent senior management and leadership experience in a multifunctional organisation of significant complexity and scale; • The capacity to oversee the development of legislation and the management of parliamentary business, including the ability to operate within and relate effectively to the political process and environment, or the ability to quickly acquire same; • A track record in developing and presenting new policy initiatives, securing. stakeholder agreement to them and taking them forward; • An ability to deal effectively at the highest level with the Minister for Justice and Equality, and gain credibility with all the key players and top management figures in all the Justice and Legal bodies as well as across Government.
