The Office of Public Works (OPW) has responsibility for the design and supervision of the construction of new buildings required for Government Departments including offices, Garda stations, prisons, social welfare centres and cultural centres. It is also responsible for the design and fitting out of Government office accommodation, the maintenance of Government buildings and the conservation, restoration and care of heritage buildings owned and occupied by the State. The OPW is also the lead State body for the coordination and implementation of Government policy on the management of flood risk in Ireland. The Quantity Surveying Section is a unit within the OPW’s Estate Portfolio Management Section, providing a full range of quantity surveying services. Reporting to Quantity Surveyors (Grade I), the Quantity Surveyor (Grade II) will be responsible for assisting in the management of all stages of construction projects, the provision of advisory services on cost and contractual matters, and assisting in the reviewing of operating procedures. The successful candidate will have a minimum of six years satisfactory experience working as a Quantity Surveyor, excellent I.T. skills, strong negotiation, analytical and research skills and hold a qualification at Level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications in Quantity Surveying, accredited by the Society of Chartered Surveyors, Ireland (SCSI) or an equivalent qualification. S/he must also be eligible for inclusion on the register of Quantity Surveyors maintained by the SCSI.
