The Legal Services Regulation Act 2015, makes extensive provision for a new and enhanced legal costs regime that will bring greater transparency to how legal costs are charged, along with a better balance between the interests of legal practitioners and those of their clients. The role of the Office of Legal Costs Adjudicators is to provide an independent and impartial process of assessment of legal costs. This involves examining the nature and extent of any work done by counsel, solicitors or by expert witnesses and determining a fair level of allowable costs. Chief Legal Costs Adjudicator. Candidates are required to possess strong technical legal expertise to undertake. taxation of legal costs in a timely and effective manner. The ideal candidates will have a comprehensive understanding of court procedure and the litigation process, and of the statutory regime and jurisprudence relating to the assessment of legal costs. Proven organisational skills and capacity in management, including the ability to lead and manage teams, is also required. Legal Costs Adjudicator. For both roles candidates are required to have; practised as a solicitor for a period of not less than 10 years;or. practised as a barrister for a period of not less than 10 years;or. practised as a legal cost accountant for a period of not less than 10 years.
